INTRO | OVERVIEW | SAMPLE PROJECTS | OUR OFFICE | OUR COUNTRY

Morocco is just a step away from Europe,  across the narrow straits of Gibraltar, but it is a world away in culture and experience, brimming over with contrasts, color and mystery. This is due partly to its geographical position, sited at the crossroads where East meets West, Africa shakes hands with Europe, and the Mediterranean merges with the Atlantic.

As a result of this geographical crossroads, it is also an ethnically diverse country with a rich cultural heritage drawing from a history of global influences. The land and the culture have been shaped by the interaction of the Berbers, the original inhabitants, and peoples of Arab, sub-Saharan, Jewish and Andalusian origins. Arabic is the country's official language and Berber is widely spoken. French is taught in primary schools and, like English, is spoken throughout the country.

Morocco's is a country of contrasts, which include debilitating urban and rural poverty coexisting alongside modern urban centers. Morocco's urban and rural areas contrast dramatically in access to adequate water, sanitation, housing, education, economic growth opportunities, and social services. VIP offers opportunities to work in the areas of social welfare, environmental protection, economic development, and in education.
